It's impossible to summarize "what to do" in just a few short
paragraphs. With regards to initial diagnosis, there are thousands of Doctors,
books and websites dedicated to better assist you and your family during this
difficult period. Here are just three basic concepts and ideas that may help
you.
First off, know that our hearts and prayers are with you. You are not
alone. Chances are, you have already had a meeting with your child's
Oncologist (A Doctor Who Specializes In Treating Cancer), and a plan of
treatment was formed. If you haven't already done so, get a second opinion as
soon as you can. Ask your child's Oncologist to refer you. In many cases, your
HMO must pay for a second opinion (for a detailed description of your rights
as an HMO Patient go to www.opa.ca.gov
- this is the California Office Of The Patient Advocate). Don't be afraid to
ask your child's doctor a lot of questions. If you don't understand some of
the terminology, ask he/she to explain it to you in simpler terms. Don't feel
intimidated, IT IS YOUR RIGHT!
Second, arm yourself with information. We've posted our story and
experiences on this site. It is meant to simply give you an idea of the great
Doctors we came in contact with, along with just some of the different
treatments and alternatives that are available to you.
There is a lot of information available on the internet, but, again, be
advised that there are many unscrupulous individuals out there that know you
are desperate. Don't fall prey to their unsubstantiated
claims.
Third, and most important, DON'T EVER GIVE UP ON YOUR CHILD OR LOVED ONE.
Don't be discouraged by the statistics. Even if you have been told that your
child only has a 1% chance of survival, it doesn't matter! There are
survivors, and there are those who have beaten Pediatric Brain Cancer.
Unfortunately, there is no cure, but, there are treatments that do show
promise and the right combination of treatment and nutrition may work for you.
Turn to God, your Family and Friends. They are all here for you.

Nishan Richard Poladian passed away on April 5th, 2004 less than six months
after being
diagnosed with Pediatric Brain Cancer. Shortly thereafter, our family decided
that to honor our little Angel, we would establish a foundation in his name,
to help children and families who are fighting pediatric cancer.
On May 25, 2004, the Nishan Richard Poladian Foundation was officially
formed and established as a California Non-Profit Corporation. The foundation
has recently applied and is awaiting approval by the IRS as an accepted
501(c)(3) Charitable Organization.
Organizations described in IRS Section 501(c)(3), are eligible to receive
tax-deductible contributions. It is our promise that 100% of all funds
donated, go directly to our Foundation. All legal fees and
administrative costs are paid out of pocket by the Poladian family.
We're real people who lost their child to this devastating disease.

Funds raised by The Nishan Richard Poladian Foundation are to be spent on
family oriented, child friendly events including but not limited to family
activities, educational tools, peer group gatherings and special
requests. Anything we can do to make a child's life (and their families)
a little easier, even if it is only for one day.

Funds are disbursed by our Foundation on a case by case basis. All requests
are brought to the attention of our Advisory Board for approval. Each child
must be diagnosed with a form of life threatening
cancer.

The Nishan Richard Poladian Foundation does not endorse, nor is affiliated
with any other establishments. Our website contains the names of Doctors and
treatments that the Poladian Family met with and used or were told about
during Nishan's diagnosis. These items are posted for informational purposes
only. We do not recommend any one particular Doctor or method of treatment. By
sharing our thoughts, experiences and knowledge, we hope to provide a forum to
help children and their families who are facing this disease.

By donating to the Nishan Richard Poladian Foundation you will be directly
affecting the lives of Children diagnosed with Pediatric Cancer.
Did you know that due to heavy administrative expenses and mismanagement,
many Charitable Organizations only use 45-65 cents of every dollar donated on
the actual cause itself?
It is the Poladian Family promise that all legal fees and administrative
costs are paid out of pocket, so that 100% of all funds donated, go directly
to the foundation.
We're just getting started - won't you join us?
